In 1889, City's primary rivalry started when the first game was played between Baltimore City College and the Baltimore Manual Training School, which was later renamed the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly).〔Leonhart (1939), p. 219.〕 Six former City College football players have gone on to professional careers in the National Football League (NFL), including Adrian Coxson, B.C.C.
